As catalogued
A dedicated rental-period insurance product, independent of the owner's own motor policy, embedded in a peer-to-peer car-sharing platform (originally with R+V).
2026 reality
SnappCar operates a peer-to-peer car-sharing platform focused on the Netherlands (about 10,000 cars, per 2024 reporting) and still runs a German site. Its German insurance page names Allianz as insurance partner for private rentals, and AIG insures vehicles in the Drive & Share programme. AutoBinck Group became sole owner in April 2024.
SnappCar acquired German peer Tamyca in September 2017 and received investment from Europcar the same year. It exited Denmark and Sweden to concentrate on the Netherlands. AutoBinck Group, a shareholder since 2011, took full ownership in April 2024 and founder Victor van Tol returned as CEO. The German rental insurance moved from R+V to Allianz. The embedded rental-insurance model remains substantially intact.
a standard pattern in peer-to-peer mobility, where cover is bundled into each rental; the insurance itself is a carrier commodity, and the platform's value lies in the embedding.
