As catalogued
Health and life insurance that rewards healthy behaviour (activity and nutrition data) with lower premiums and benefits, using Discovery's shared-value Vitality programme.
2026 reality
VitalityHealth and VitalityLife are London-based, wholly owned UK subsidiaries of Discovery Limited (JSE-listed). VitalityHealth is the UK's third-largest private health insurer, with about 1.9 million members (February 2025).
Discovery raised its stake in the joint venture to 75% in 2010 and bought Prudential's remaining 25% for GBP 155 million in November 2014, then rebranded PruHealth and PruProtect as VitalityHealth and VitalityLife. The behaviour-linked rewards model remains substantially intact.
the reference implementation of behaviour-based, shared-value health and life insurance in the UK; it is an incumbent JV, not a start-up as the catalog suggests.
Third taxonomy
REVIEW · Verified the November 2014 buyout of Prudential's 25% (GBP 155m) and rebrand via Discovery's release and COVER; added both sources and replaced Wikipedia as the basis for that milestone.
