Innovation intelligence brief
Innovation intelligence brief
DokChain is a distributed network of transaction processors operating on both financial and clinical data across the healthcare industry. Our goal is to leverage blockchain technology across a broad range of industry participants to pave the way for a new healthcare economy in which data and services are quantifiable and exchangeable. And, where the security and privacy of sensitive information is reinforced by strong guarantees, and where transaction history can be audited longitudinally.

As catalogued
A blockchain-based distributed network of transaction processors for healthcare financial and clinical data (eligibility, claims, payments), promoted through an industry alliance by PokitDok.
2026 reality
PokitDok no longer operates as an independent company. Change Healthcare acquired PokitDok's software, intellectual property and team in December 2018 and stated it would use DokChain technology to add blockchain capabilities to its Intelligent Healthcare Network. Change Healthcare itself was combined with UnitedHealth Group's Optum in October 2022.
The DokChain alliance and PokitDok's API marketplace ceased to be a distinct offering; the assets were folded into Change Healthcare's network.
standalone healthcare blockchain networks struggled to reach the multi-party adoption they required; an asset sale to a large clearinghouse placed the technology where transaction volume already existed.
of historical interest as one of the most visible 2017-2018 attempts to apply blockchain to healthcare claims and eligibility transactions.
