Innovation intelligence brief
Innovation intelligence brief
Added by the 2026 Swiss InsurTech research (issue #41) from public sources, not by the original academic study (Stoeckli, Dremel & Uebernickel). Its 2016 and 2017 classifications apply the original taxonomy definitions but were not validated by that study. All innovations in this cohort · Methodology ↗
Platform and services that let insurers, brokers and MGAs assess, mitigate and monitor SME cyber risk (dark-web and ransomware intelligence, AI-generated underwriting reports, continuous vulnerability alerts, incident response) and embed cyber protection in their policies.
Research profile · Swiss Innovation · 2021–2026
Classification notes · Record framed around the in-window Helvetia Switzerland deployment (Nov 2024), since Coinnect itself dates from 2018. Founding year sources: 2018 (Greater Zurich Area, EconomyUp). Strategic evolution 'expanded' because by 2026 the company addresses enterprises, MSPs, public sector and national cybersecurity besides insurers; no business-model-shift code fits a move to non-insurance segments, so the dimension is left empty. Maturity 'scaling' is a judgement based on the broadened commercial offer; no customer figures found.
What became of it

At launch
A cyber insurtech platform combining threat intelligence, AI risk scoring and continuous monitoring so insurers can underwrite SME cyber risk dynamically and add prevention services, comparable to telematics in motor insurance.
2026 reality
Coinnect SA's website (2026) presents a broader cyber risk intelligence business (external attack surface, third-party and national attack surface management) serving enterprises, MSPs, public sector and national cybersecurity bodies, with cyber insurance (underwriting, renewal, portfolio monitoring, claims context) as one solution line. No 2025-2026 public update on the Helvetia deployment was found.
The insurance offering remains, but by 2026 Coinnect presents itself as a general Swiss cyber risk intelligence company with insurance as one of five customer segments.
one of the few Swiss-based cyber insurtech platforms serving insurers; its value lies in linking underwriting terms to ongoing SME cyber hygiene, a key gap given low cyber insurance penetration among Swiss SMEs.
Third taxonomy
REVIEW · All sources resolve. Added the Greater Zurich Area report of the joint press release (6 Nov 2024; confirms Mendrisio base and 2018 founding) and Coinnect's official site (company details, cyber insurance solution, about page), resolving the URL/HQ questions. Updated reality2026 and evolution: the company has broadened from cyber insurtech to general cyber risk intelligence; strategic evolution changed to 'expanded'. Launch evidence reframed on the joint press release.
