As catalogued
AXA Winterthur pay-how-you-drive offer for drivers aged 18-25: a self-installable box continuously recorded acceleration, braking, cornering and trip times via GPS and mobile data; drivers saw their score online and received a 20% premium discount, rising to 25% (safest third) or falling to 15% (riskiest third) after a year.
2026 reality
The Drive Recorder is no longer offered and the original axa-winterthur.ch URL no longer resolves. Its later telematics successor DrivePartner (ryd box and app, with ryd suisse AG) can no longer be added to AXA car policies, though existing contracts still work; AXA's site now refers to a Safe Driver bonus (15% discount for drivers aged 18-25).
Drive Recorder was marketed to young drivers around 2016. AXA later piloted DrivePartner with ryd suisse in 2018 (six months, 500 customers) and rolled it out to all car customers in July 2019 with a 15% discount for drivers under 26; DrivePartner has since been closed to new policies.
an early incumbent pay-how-you-drive experiment in Switzerland; AXA moved from continuous driving-behaviour scoring to lighter OBD/app and bonus models, and usage-based motor insurance did not become mainstream in the Swiss market.
Third taxonomy
REVIEW · Verified the Drive Recorder terms in the TCS booklet (June 2016), the 2019 DrivePartner launch (Moneycab), the AXA page saying DrivePartner can no longer be added, and that axa-winterthur.ch no longer resolves. No corrections needed.
