As catalogued
A consumer website that made it fast and simple to find, compare and buy ACA (Obamacare) exchange plans, built as a workaround to the troubled 2013 HealthCare.gov launch.
2026 reality
HealthSherpa operates as a CMS-approved Enhanced Direct Enrollment (EDE) web broker whose platform lets licensed agents complete full Marketplace enrollments without leaving HealthSherpa; carriers also run consumer enrollment through healthsherpa.com subdomains. The company says it has enrolled over 10 million people since 2014, and a 2026 profile reports about 220 employees.
The emphasis moved from a consumer comparison site to EDE enrollment infrastructure for agents, brokers and carriers. From 1 November 2025 CMS ended redirect-based direct enrollment, and HealthSherpa moved agents onto its EDE flow; in July 2024 it launched a 'Member Defense Network' duplicate-enrollment and consent registry with insurers.
the EDE regime made a CMS-approved enrollment pipeline more valuable than consumer traffic, and agents and carriers became the scalable channel.
a leading EDE platform in the US individual market. Its exposure is tied to ACA policy, including the expiry of enhanced premium tax credits at the end of 2025, falling 2026 enrollment and federal scrutiny of broker-driven improper enrollments.

REVIEW · Verified the EDE role and the 1 November 2025 end of redirect-based agent enrollment on HealthSherpa's help page, and the Member Defense Network launch via KFF Health News (added as the source, replacing a database profile). The 2017 funding figure and the 10 million enrolments remain company or database statements.
