What became of it

As catalogued
One of the first UK telematics ('black box') car insurance brands for 17-25-year-old drivers. Premiums were tied to measured driving behaviour, with feedback to help young drivers improve, and underwriting capacity came initially from RSA.
2026 reality
ingenie is a trading name of A-Plan Holdings (FCA FRN 310164). It sells young-driver and learner-driver car insurance, including black-box policies with a driving-feedback app, with quotes provided via MyFirst.
Ownership passed from founders and backers (Gary Lineker among them) to Quindell (later Watchstone) from 2013-2014. In October 2020 A-Plan Group, which Howden had bought the month before, agreed to buy ingenie from Watchstone for up to £5.5m, placing it within its Endsleigh operations. The young-driver telematics proposition remains substantially intact as a broker brand inside A-Plan.
one of the longest-running UK young-driver telematics brands. Telematics is now standard in this segment, so the brand's value lies in its position and data within a large broker group rather than in technical novelty.
Third taxonomy
REVIEW · Verified the 2020 A-Plan acquisition via Insurance Business (2020-10-09, citing Watchstone's RNS) and confirmed on ingenie.com that ingenie is a trading name of A-Plan Holdings, with quotes provided via MyFirst. Corrected the deal terms from a flat £5.5m to up to £5.5m (£3m upfront plus a £2.5m earn-out), added the Endsleigh context, and replaced the database-only dating with the press source.
