Objective, outside-in security ratings (250-900 scale, similar to a credit score) that let insurers, enterprises and investors benchmark and monitor cyber risk.
2026 reality
Bitsight is a private Boston company providing security ratings for more than 200,000 organisations, plus exposure analysis, cyber risk quantification and threat intelligence for enterprises, governments and insurers on subscription. A new CEO, John Clancy, was announced in 2026.
Bitsight expanded beyond ratings through acquisitions: VisibleRisk (cyber risk quantification, 2021) and Cybersixgill (threat intelligence, USD 115m, 2024). Moody's invested USD 250m in 2021 and became its largest shareholder. The core ratings model remains.
Moody's backing and the acquisitions push Bitsight toward a broad cyber risk intelligence platform serving enterprise security and financial-risk buyers, not only insurers.
a reference provider of security ratings and one of the most widely used external cyber data sources in cyber underwriting.
