What became of it
Reviewed · Low confidence · Last verified 2026-10-17
As catalogued
UK pioneer of black-box telematics motor insurance for young, new and low-mileage drivers, rewarding good driving with bonus miles and pricing on observed behaviour.
2026 reality
Ownership is documented: Insure The Box Limited (launched June 2010) has been wholly owned by Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance Company of Europe (ANDIE, MS&AD) since 2018, with the brands insurethebox and Drive Like A Girl. Whether the brand still writes business in 2026 is unverified: the insurethebox.com domain did not resolve on 2026-10-17 and no dated 2023-2026 coverage was found.
MS&AD's European arm ANDIE bought 75.01% of Box Innovation Group from Catlin and others for GBP 105m (announced December 2014) and completed the buyout of the remaining shares in January 2018, planning to integrate the business into the ANDIE Group during 2018; founder Mike Brockman left at end-2017. Around 2018-2020 the brand still operated (e.g. AA GetDriving partnership, protected no-claims for young drivers), but no later developments were verified.
historically a reference case for UK telematics motor insurance and for an insurer acquiring a telematics specialist; its 2026 relevance depends on whether the brand is still active.
Third taxonomy
REVIEW · Confirmed the 2014 majority stake (75.01%, GBP 105m) and the January 2018 full buyout and integration plan via search coverage of Intelligent Insurer and Insurance Age; confirmed that insurethebox.com does not resolve. No 2023-2026 trading evidence or run-off notice was found, so 2026 activity stays open and confidence low.
