As catalogued
On-demand, by-the-hour liability insurance for small drones (up to 15 lbs) bought via app, launched in 2016 as one of the first on-demand commercial micro-policies.
2026 reality
Verifly operates as Thimble, a digital small-business insurance platform owned by Arch Insurance since 2023. Thimble sells general and professional liability and other commercial cover by the job, month or year via app, web or phone; verifly.com redirects to Thimble's Verifly drone-insurance page.
In October 2019 Verifly raised a USD 22M Series A led by IAC and rebranded as Thimble, broadening from drone cover to short-term liability for around 100 small-business job types (underwritten by Markel and other carriers). In April 2023 Arch Insurance acquired Thimble.
According to founder Jay Bregman, customer demand for cover beyond drones led the company to extend its on-demand model to other small-business trades, which made the drone-specific name too narrow.
Its flexible, time-based commercial cover was an early proof point for on-demand small-business insurance and now serves as an incumbent carrier's digital small-commercial channel.
