Innovation intelligence brief
Added by the 2026 Swiss InsurTech research (issue #41) from public sources, not by the original academic study (Stoeckli, Dremel & Uebernickel). Its 2016 and 2017 classifications apply the original taxonomy definitions but were not validated by that study. All innovations in this cohort · Methodology ↗
Automatic matching of vested benefits on job change, added in 2024 to the free BVG Exchange data platform of the Substitute Occupational Benefit Institution: BVG Exchange Match pairs the leaving fund's exit report with the new fund's entry report so retirement savings are transferred without an order from the insured person, and Payment Validation verifies payment details before the transfer.
Research profile · Swiss Innovation · 2021–2026
Classification notes · The record covers the 2024 Match and Payment Validation services, not the 2012 platform. Change dimensions are relative to the July 2024 launch of Match: Payment Validation was announced at the same time, so the model is 'retained'. The operator is a foundation acting on behalf of the Confederation; company status 'corporate-initiative' is the closest fit. Platform statistics (transfers, matches) cover all BVG Exchange services.

At launch
Industry-wide automated matching of leaving and joining pension funds, so vested benefits transfer without the insured person filing an order, plus validation of payment details, built on the existing BVG Exchange data channel.
2026 reality
According to AEIS, 622 occupational benefits institutions are affiliated (out of more than 1,300 in Switzerland), with 1,562,125 transfers and 15,207 matches recorded across the platform; participation is free. Transfer of entire affiliations is planned.
The original model remains substantially intact; Payment Validation, announced together with Match in July 2024, went live in December 2024.
a rare piece of shared, neutral digital infrastructure in the fragmented Swiss second pillar, comparable in role to the SFTI open-pension efforts.
Third taxonomy
REVIEW · Refocused name, mission, launch evidence and originalInnovation on the in-window 2024 services (Match, Payment Validation); the 2012 platform is context only (milestone type changed from 'launch' to 'other'; the 2024 Match milestone is the launch). Strategic evolution changed from 'expanded' to 'retained' because change is measured from the 2024 launch. Figures updated to the exact numbers on the AEIS page.
