Innovation intelligence brief
Added by the 2026 Swiss InsurTech research (issue #41) from public sources, not by the original academic study (Stoeckli, Dremel & Uebernickel). Its 2016 and 2017 classifications apply the original taxonomy definitions but were not validated by that study. All innovations in this cohort · Methodology ↗
Three optional parametric modules in Baloise's Swiss holiday insurance (trips of 2 to 92 days) that pay automatically when thresholds are exceeded: CHF 100 per insured day of rain, snow or hail above a set level (EU, Switzerland, Liechtenstein; with Wetterheld), airport lounge access or CHF 25 for flight delays over two hours and CHF 200 from four hours (with Blink Parametric), and CHF 100 per delayed bag plus CHF 200 after 48 hours (with Blink Parametric), built in partnership with KASKO.
Research profile · Swiss Innovation · 2021–2026
Classification notes · Incumbent product. After the Helvetia-Baloise merger the baloise.ch holiday insurance page redirects to a Helvetia 404 page and the Helvetia travel insurance page does not list the covers; continuation in 2026 could not be confirmed, so strategic-evolution and maturity are 'unclear' (not 'discontinued', as no closure was announced).
What became of it

At launch
First Swiss-market bundle of parametric weather, flight delay and baggage delay covers within a mainstream insurer's holiday insurance, with no claim filing required.
2026 reality
The Baloise media release now sits under 'part of the Helvetia Baloise Group'. The former Baloise holiday insurance product page redirects to a Helvetia 404 page, and Helvetia's Swiss travel insurance page (2026) does not mention parametric weather, flight-delay or baggage-delay covers. No 2026 evidence that the modules are still sold was found.
Baloise merged with Helvetia (Helvetia Baloise Group); the Baloise retail brand in Switzerland is being migrated to Helvetia. Fate of the parametric modules unknown.
an early incumbent adoption of retail parametric covers in Switzerland, combining several insurtech partners (KASKO, Wetterheld, Blink); comparable to Poncho's embedded approach but sold through the insurer's own channel.
Third taxonomy
REVIEW · Verified both Baloise releases (fetched; the site blocks plain curl). Corrected mission details (CHF 200 from four hours of flight delay, CHF 200 after 48 hours of baggage delay, coverage area of the weather cover) and pricing. Checked Helvetia's 2026 travel insurance page: no parametric covers listed; status kept 'unclear'. Added KASKO (catalog 96) to distinctFrom. Swiss connection type normalised to 'headquarters'.
