Innovation intelligence brief
Added by the 2026 Swiss InsurTech research (issue #41) from public sources, not by the original academic study (Stoeckli, Dremel & Uebernickel). Its 2016 and 2017 classifications apply the original taxonomy definitions but were not validated by that study. All innovations in this cohort · Methodology ↗
Digital basic-insurance model in which insured persons start every health concern in the Well app's symptom checker, which routes them to self-care, a Medi24 teleconsultation, a practice visit or their registered family doctor; referrals, treatment plans and e-prescriptions are handled in the app and medication is delivered by Zur Rose, in exchange for a premium discount against KPT's standard model.
Research profile · Swiss Innovation · 2021–2026
Classification notes · Maturity 'established' because the model is a regular part of KPT's basic-insurance range for a third premium year (2027); uptake figures are not public. Technology 'digital-channel' because the app is a third-party platform (Well) without proprietary technology evidenced for KPT.

At launch
An insurer builds its basic-insurance model on an independent, multi-insurer health app (Well) rather than its own app.
2026 reality
KPT's product page in 2026 offers KPTwin.smart ('Digital-Modell mit Hausarzt') with premiums calculated for 2027 and a 14–20% discount against the standard model; the Well symptom checker remains the mandatory first step. In August 2026 KPT was named a new partner of the merged Compassana-Well platform, which is to start operating on 1 January 2027.
The original model remains substantially intact; the discount range quoted by KPT changed from 11–20% (2024) to 14–20% (2027 premiums).
an example of an insurer using a shared platform as the first point of contact, which lowers the cost for a mid-sized insurer of offering a digital-first model.
Third taxonomy
REVIEW · Added KPT's official product page, which confirms the model is still offered with 2027 premiums (14–20% discount) and resolves the 2026 status; maturity changed from 'unclear' to 'established'. Confirmed from Netzwoche that it was a new model in 2024. Name aligned with KPT's spelling (KPTwin.smart). Mission updated with the routing options and Medi24/Zur Rose services named on the product page.
