Innovation intelligence brief
Innovation intelligence brief
Added by the 2026 Swiss InsurTech research from public sources, not by the original academic study (Stoeckli, Dremel & Uebernickel). These innovations predate the 2021–2026 window; its 2016 and 2017 classifications apply the original taxonomy definitions but were not validated by that study. Actuarial software for re/insurers: started in 2018 as a browser-based app for statistical distributions and distribution fitting for actuaries, and grew into a modular (low-code, according to the company) suite for data management, pricing, underwriting and reinsurance/capital modelling that insurers can run in their own cloud.
Research profile · Swiss Innovation · to 2021
Classification notes · Launch measured from the 2018 Actus preview. Legacy leaves: the 2016/2017 taxonomies have no pricing-engine leaf; 'Advanced data science' (statistical/actuarial modelling for risk assessment) is the closest fit for both the 2018 distribution-fitting app and the later pricing suite. Strategic evolution 'expanded': same target users (re/insurance actuaries and underwriters) and core (actuarial modelling), extended from a single distribution-fitting app to a modular pricing, underwriting, data-management and reinsurance suite and an enterprise rating engine (Zurich). No business-model-shift code applies: the move from a free preview to subscription licensing is a change of revenue logic not covered by the shift codes. Company status 'independent' (owner-managed). Maturity 'established' is a judgement: commercially offered for years and deployed as Zurich's global commercial rating engine, but Zurich is the only named client. Technology 'data-driven' (actuarial models and algorithms are the core); 'low-code' is the company's own description and is not used as a separate claim.

At launch
A browser-based actuarial tool from the Zurich insurance-software house Sidenis (2018 preview): analytical distributions, fitting distributions to data and statistical measures with intuitive visualisation, replacing actuaries' home-grown standalone tools.
2026 reality
Offered by Solveva AG as an actuarial pricing and modelling suite with modules for data management (RiskShed), evaluation (RiskEval), pricing, underwriting and reinsurance structures (RiskBoard), and capital modelling and reinsurance optimisation; Solveva calls it a low-code software suite. Zurich Insurance put a Global Rating Engine for commercial insurance built on Actus into service on 1 May 2026, running in Zurich's own cloud, with scenario analysis, master data management and calculation administration, and plans to extend it to further lines and regions.
Actus appeared in 2018 as Sidenis's distribution-fitting app in closed beta; by August 2019 Sidenis presented Actus as 'a unique range of actuarial modelling and pricing tools for the (re-)insurance industry' and the site was titled 'Actus by Sidenis'. Sidenis AG was renamed Solveva AG in January 2021, which in 2021 offered Actus as 'an actuarial modelling and pricing suite that's ready to use' and modules of standard software for (re-)insurance. By 2026 Actus had become a modular pricing and underwriting suite, and Zurich's Global Rating Engine built on it went live in May 2026.
a Swiss actuarial pricing platform comparable in role to rating engines from larger vendors, notable for running inside the insurer's own cloud and for growing out of a custom pricing-software house.
Third taxonomy
REVIEW · Reworked for the 'to 2021' window: launch 2026-05 (Zurich deployment) -> 2018-06 (Actus on sidenis.com and actus.cloud closed beta, Internet Archive). Name changed from 'Solveva Actus' to reflect the Sidenis origin; key unchanged. Added Zefix (Sidenis AG renamed Solveva AG, statute change 26 Jan 2021), archived Sidenis/Actus/Solveva pages, actus.cloud module description, and Intelligent Insurer as second source for the Zurich go-live. Rewrote mission, originalInnovation, reality2026, evolution and milestones accordingly. Insurtech Insights does not call Actus low-code; that wording is now attributed to Solveva. Strategic evolution unclear -> expanded; technology automation-led -> data-driven; value chain + risk-capital (reinsurance structures, capital modelling). Status RESEARCHING -> COMPLETED (medium confidence: early history rests on archived pages).
