As catalogued
A planned Chicago-based peer-to-peer insurance marketplace (founded 2014) that would pool policies and let investors back the risk for a share of what remained after claims, promising lower premiums for policyholders and risk-adjusted returns for investors.
2026 reality
uvamo.com does not respond. Dealroom lists the company as inactive, and no evidence was found that the marketplace ever launched.
A US launch was planned for late 2015, and a 2016 relaunch around social grouping was reportedly considered; in February 2017 press coverage described Uvamo as in development for a year or more but not yet launched. No later activity was found; Dealroom lists it as inactive and CB Insights as closed.
one of several 2014-2016 investor-backed P2P insurance concepts that did not reach market; the investor-funded risk-pool idea later resurfaced in insurance-linked and on-chain capacity models.
Third taxonomy
REVIEW · Confirmed the 2017 CSMonitor 'not yet launched' report and database closed/inactive flags (added CB Insights); changed the 2026 observation milestone from 'closure' to 'other' and lowered confidence to low, since discontinuation rests on database entries only.
