Added by the 2026 Swiss InsurTech research (issue #41) from public sources, not by the original academic study (Stoeckli, Dremel & Uebernickel). Its 2016 and 2017 classifications apply the original taxonomy definitions but were not validated by that study. All innovations in this cohort · Methodology ↗
Helvetia gives its SME business customers access to discounted Community Bugtests by the Zurich bug bounty start-up GObugfree, in which ethical hackers assess a company's attack surface and give improvement recommendations, helping SMEs reach the basic security level required for cyber insurance and optionally leading to a continuous bug bounty programme.
Research profile · Swiss Innovation · 2021–2026
Classification notes · Incumbent corporate initiative. GObugfree is a Zurich start-up founded in 2021 (AWP). Business model coded as the SME-facing prevention service bundled with cyber cover. Technology left empty: crowdsourced ethical hacking does not map to a technology category. Helvetia combined with Baloise (Helvetia Baloise Holding AG).

At launch
A Swiss insurer bundling crowdsourced security testing (ethical hackers) as a prevention service for SME customers, on the rationale that cyber insurance covers financial losses but cannot restore lost data.
2026 reality
Helvetia's Swiss cyber insurance page for businesses (2026, after the Helvetia-Baloise combination) lists a 'discounted Community Bugtest from GObugfree' among the benefits of its SME cyber insurance, and GObugfree's partner page states that Helvetia customers get special conditions for the Community Bugtest.
The original offer remains substantially intact as a benefit of Helvetia's SME cyber insurance; in November 2024 Helvetia Switzerland additionally adopted Coinnect's cyber risk assessment platform (separate record).
illustrates Swiss insurers' shift from pure cyber risk transfer to prevention partnerships with local security start-ups; similar offers exist at Zurich (SoSafe awareness training) and Mobiliar (awareness training with a partner).
Third taxonomy
REVIEW · Resolved the 2026-status flag: Helvetia's current cyber insurance page lists the discounted GObugfree Community Bugtest, and GObugfree's partner page confirms special conditions for Helvetia customers; strategic evolution set to 'retained' and maturity to 'established'. Added the AWP/cash.ch report (Zurich start-up founded 2021; Helvetia first Swiss insurer partner) and GObugfree's partnership page. Netzwoche source fetched and confirmed. Swiss connection type normalised to 'headquarters'.
