Innovation intelligence brief
Innovation intelligence brief
Added by the 2026 Swiss InsurTech research (issue #41) from public sources, not by the original academic study (Stoeckli, Dremel & Uebernickel). Its 2016 and 2017 classifications apply the original taxonomy definitions but were not validated by that study. All innovations in this cohort · Methodology ↗
Optional death and/or disability cover of CHF 50,000–300,000 that VIAC pillar 3a and vested-benefits customers take out digitally in the VIAC app, billed by credit card outside the 3a account and cancellable at any time; carried by Helvetia.
Research profile · Swiss Innovation · 2021–2026
Classification notes · Company status 'independent': the imprint names VIAC Services AG as operator and WIR Bank as owner of the VIAC trademark; the share register was not verified, so a WIR Bank majority cannot be excluded. VIAC's free 'Life Basic' cover is treated as background. Market positioning 'broker' and 'ecosystem-enabler' reflect that VIAC distributes Helvetia's risk cover inside its pension platform.

At launch
Pension-savings fintech embedding flexible, cancellable risk life cover in its app at low cost, paid separately so 3a savings keep compounding.
2026 reality
In 2026 VIAC offers Life Plus as death and/or disability cover of CHF 50,000–300,000 for illness and accident, with one-year auto-renewing terms, age-based premiums recalculated yearly, credit-card billing separate from the 3a account and a fully digital application; Helvetia is the risk carrier and VIAC pays out claims. The linked conditions document is versioned 08/2026.
The original model remains substantially intact.
a Swiss example of insurance embedded in a pension fintech, challenging insurer-led 3a risk products on price and flexibility.
Third taxonomy
REVIEW · Verified launch (Fintechnews, 17 February 2022) and 2026 product terms on VIAC's product and FAQ pages. Added the VIAC imprint as source for the operating entity (VIAC Services AG, Basel) and WIR Bank's trademark ownership; ownership note added. Hedged the 'three times cheaper' claim as VIAC's launch statement ('up to').
